After a great start into the spring season Lunds VK’s B team took the long way to Åstorp / Kvidinge to face an opponent of the lower league table. Despite the massive win against Malmö atmosphere was somewhat marred due to some casualties before the match; especially the injury of center Tony Kusbach saddened the mood clearly.
However, once on the court of the Kvidingehallen, the team quickly got its determination back. With their strong serving skills the team put a lot of pressure on Åstorp’s reception, making it rarely possible for the otherwise talented spikers to successfully attack Lund. Therefore, a lot of free balls let Lund perform some really handsome cross plays. Consequently, the first set was won with a clear 25-7 (!) advantage.
Even a short loss of focus in the second set did not cover the fact that there had always been only one designated winner of this match and thus set two and three were won 25-16 and 25-13. Nonetheless, Åstorp showed they have some talented young players with a lot of potential for the future.
Eventually, even in a rather less exciting match Lund’s B-team showed its biggest strength: a constant level on every position. From the reception over the setter to every spiker, everyone plays almost on the same niveau, making it hard for any opponent to find a weak spot. With that being said, Filip Henrikson and Philipp Fischer shared the title of the player of the game. While Filip’s massive spikes almost shot some holes into the gym’s floor, Philipp showed no mercy at the net and blocked several of Åstorp’s attacks.
We hope to keep this constancy for the next match against Örkelljunga and the following challenge against Engelholm, in order to make the final of the season more exciting!
MVP’s: center Philipp Fischer & left wing Filip Henrikson
